THIRD COMPANY IN LOCAL RADIO BID
RIVIERA Radio Ltd, which was formed last year, is to apply for the Torbay and Exeter region independent radio franchise.
The BBC and another independent local company, Bay City Radio, have already shown interest in the franchise.
Riviera Radio, whose chairman is Mr F. M. Mosley, the headmaster and warden of Paignton School, say their aim is to bring to the listeners all the benefits of a self-financing local radio service “in a form which will reflect the character of the area and encourage a greater awareness of public affairs.”
The managing director of the company is Paignton jeweller Mr Alan Salvidge, the former president of Paignton Chamber of Trade. The company secretary is Mr Bryan Wordsworth.
Yesterday a BBC team was in Exeter looking for suitable premises for a radio station.
Mr Michael Knapp-Fisher, a senior architect, Mr Nigel Thomas, of the Corporation’s estates department and Mr Tom Beesley, vice-chairman of the BBC’s local radio development group, met local estate agents before discussing the subject with Exeter City Council’s planning officer, Mr Ray Green.
