Setback for Radio Haldon
It took Torbay’s planners a matter of minutes yesterday to refuse Radio Haldon permission for a broadcasting studio in Torquay.
However, the people behind the company, who will operate on the air as DevonAir, said today: “We will still be opening up in Torquay.
“We have another side in mind. We can understand the council’s way to thinking and will work closely as possible with them.”
DevonAir, who recently won the local radio franchise for Torbay and Exeter, wanted to convert the Tregantle Hotel in Bampfylde Road into a broadcasting studio, but the planning committee deemed the conversion would be an intrusion into a residential area and turned down the application.
