Exeter based DevonAir is to launch a new service for east Devon and west Dorset.

The commercial station will broadcast under the name of South West One and is planning to be on the air this summer.

David Cousins, managing director of DevonAir, said yesterday that the Home Office had given the Independent Broadcasting Authority permission to mount or 2kW radio transmitter on its television mast at Stockland Hill and one was already being designed.

Identity

“I have lived on the east Devon and Dorset border for many years and feel that the area has its own identity. South West One will bring out the unique character of the region, focusing on issues which for too long have been looked upon as secondary to a vents within the major cities and towns of Devon and Dorset.

“DevonAir already received many letters and telephone calls from Dorset listeners and broadcast them urgency information from Devon County Council.
