DevonAir Radio, the new ILR station serving Exeter and Torbay, is planning an autumn 1980 launch, subject to final confirmation from the Independent Broadcasting Authority.

The station will broadcast on both VHF and medium wave, with a strong emphasis on local news, information, and community involvement, alongside a varied music format designed to appeal to a broad audience.

Recruitment of presenters and technical staff is expected to begin early in the new year, with the aim of building a team that reflects the character and diversity of the franchise area.

Studios will be based in Exeter, with additional facilities in Torbay to ensure comprehensive coverage of local events and issues.

DevonAir’s application to the IBA highlighted its commitment to local ownership and decision-making, promising to deliver a truly local service for the people of South Devon.
