DevonAir, one of Devon’s independent local radio stations, has come top of the pops among listeners in its transmission area.
Independent research shows weekly listening figures for the station rose by 10 per cent last year 257,000 to overtake the audience of the BBC’s national Radio One.
Radio one’s audience fell from 188,000 a week in the area last year two 151,000.
But local BBC station Radio Devon sore its audience rise from 77,000 listeners a week to 85,000.
DevonAir managing Director David Cousins said: “it is quite apparent that radio listeners are becoming more demanding.
“They are wanting to hear more local news.”
