The decision on who will rule the independent radio air waves in Devon will be announced tomorrow.

The radio authority will reveal who will have the franchise for the Exeter Torbay radio licence for the next eight years early tomorrow afternoon.

The battle for the air waves will be one by the station which, in the opinion of the 12 strong Radio Authority team, caters best for the tastes and interests of listeners in and around Exeter and Torbay.

So what do the three rival applicants, Bay City Radio Limited, Gemini Radio Limited and Wild West Radio offer compared with the present holder DevonAir?

Or target local news is central to their bid.

Bay City promises to reintroduce the DevonDay, originally a DevonAir programme, with news and current affairs.

Gemini will give the opportunity for phone in questioning of politicians.

And Wild West is selling himself through its plans for three studios to provide localised news.

All three plan to the AM and FM targeting a younger audience.

But DevonAir claims “simulcasting” AM and FM has been at the heart of this success and that more than 80,000 listeners might lose out because of Devon’s hill if the wavelengths was split.
