The race to broadcast independent radio in south Devon into the next century started today.
Licences to broadcast on both FM and AM wave bands –currently held by DevonAir –up being advertised from today by The Radio Authority.
The new licence, which covers Exeter and Torbay, starts in 1995 and runs until 2003.
It is open to all bidders who have until August to reply, with the winners being announced around October.
DevonAir is re-applying for both licences and the company’s chief executive Paul Angus, said they were confident of success.
He added “we are looking forward positively to the procedures ahead and are confident that DevonAir will be able to continue to provide a popular service in the years ahead.”
Mr. Angus described customer response to the relaunching of the station’s programming as “wonderful” and they were receiving “great support”.
