Torbay’s radio studio –for the DevonAir radio station which expects to be on the air next year –is likely to be on Torquay harbourside.

Torbay planning committee has approved a scheme to have the studio on the fourth floor of St. James Chambers in Victoria Parade.

The plans were passed without debate. The officers had recommended that they should be approved.

The DevonAir architect stated in the application of the studio would be visually undetectable from the outside and totally soundproofed. The only life broadcasting will be news bulletins, phone Ins and interviews with one or at most two people.

Previously the radio company had been interested in the Tregantle Hotel at Torquay.
