Local radio battle near end

The three groups fighting it out for the franchise to run the independent local radio station covering Torbay and Exeter are coming to the final stages before a decision is made.

All three — Bay City Radio, Haldon Radio, and Riviera Radio — are represented by interests from both Torbay and Exeter areas.

The IBA said today that applications for the contract to operate the service will be invited within the next two weeks. The closing date for the applications will be about nine weeks later.

Mr Bryan Wordsworth, company secretary of Riviera Radio said they were hoping for the outcome to be known in July.
