Three want local radio contract

There are three applications for the contract to operate an Independent Local Radio service for Exeter and Torbay, the IBA said today.

There had been hints of some late applications but when the closing date arrived there were only the expected three from Bay City Radio, Radio Haldon and Riviera Radio.

Bay City is under the chairmanship of Mr John Wheatley, of E. Pearse and Son, the Exeter metal merchants; Haldon, which will be known as Devonair if it wins the franchise, is led by Vice-Admiral Sir Ronald Brockman, and Riviera is chaired by Paignton headmaster Mr Frederick Mosley.
