Once an appropriate building had been identified and acquired, the preparations were swiftly initiated to establish the world’s twinned radio station. The initial location chosen for this pioneering endeavour was in Exeter, which served as the base for the company’s administrative headquarters situated at St. David’s Hill. The selected building was a late Georgian terrace consisting of three houses, complete with a preservation order that strictly prohibited any modifications to its external appearance.
Leading this ambitious project was Nick Johnson, who was chief engineer, accompanied by his two broadcast engineers, Nick Bennett and Howard Pelling. All three individuals possessed extensive experience in the broadcasting field, having previously worked for the nearby station, Plymouth Sound. Their collective expertise and familiarity with the intricacies of radio broadcasting laid a solid foundation for the forthcoming venture.
These images show the really early stages of readiness supplied to this research in 2005 and owned by Nick Johnson (restricted terms of use here):
As soon as Exeter was complete and on-air work continued to complete the facilities in Torquay (of which, hopefully, more will be added here).
