Torbay studio plan dropped

RADIO HALDON — who have been awarded the contract for independent broadcasting in the Torbay and Exeter area — have withdrawn their application to use a Torquay hotel as their Torbay studio.

Planning officers told Torbay council’s planning committee yesterday that the scheme to convert the Tregantle Hotel, in Bampfylde Road, had been withdrawn.

Members were told that Haldon Radio’s architects had written to the council saying that they did not intend going ahead with the plan.

However, the company’s secretary, Mr Hamish Turner, said later that as far as he was concerned there had been no decision to drop the plan.

“We thought the matter was to be dealt with,” he said. “I’m very surprised and annoyed at it being withdrawn. I have no idea why.

“We wrote to the Town Hall asking if we could have a meeting to discuss the matter with the chairman of the planning committee because delays would make things difficult for us.”
